District 1220 YOUNG CHEF MASTERCLASS 2018-19
Entries into the RIBI Young Chef competitions in the past few years have been gradually decreasing so much so that last year we could not hold a District 1220 final and the entries went straight through to the Regional Final.
To this end it has been decided to abandon this competition in District 1220 and replace it with a Young Chef Masterclass aimed at “Making a Difference” to school children who aspire to making a career for themselves in the catering industry.
The masterclass will give youngsters an insight, not only into food preparation but mastering cooking essentials from kitchen setup, Health and Safety, and buying the freshest ingredients to constructing unforgettable dishes,
A talented potential young chef, of any age, who falls in any of the following categories
- Receives free school meals
- Is subject to pupil premium payment
- Is identified by their Food Technology teacher as coming from a family where significant financial hardship is preventing progress
Entrants must be submitted by their teacher but must also be sponsored by a local Rotary Club. Where no club has been contacted, District 1220 Youth Services Coordinator will put the candidate in touch with a club in their locality willing to be their sponsor.
It is hoped to do 2 Masterclass events in different parts of the District. These will be held in March 2019.
Further details and application forms will be provided on the District web site once details have been finalised.
