Record Breaking Motor Show

Thousands of pounds has been raised for local charities after the crowds really turned out in the summer sunshine for the area’s biggest Classic Car & Bike Show held at Rectory Fields, Ashover on Sunday 22 July 2018. With hundreds of cars and bikes from all eras on show, the event organised jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Chesterfield, Chesterfield Scarsdale, Clay Cross, and Matlock, is being considered to be ‘best yet’.

Winner of ‘Best Car’ was John Gregory of Kilburn, near Derby, for his 1962 Austin Healey 3000. Trophy presented by Chesterfield Scarsdale Rotary president Ron Enock.

Winner of ‘Best Bike’ was Jess Bamford of Codnor with his very rare 1929 Indian 4 1260cc American motor bike. Trophy presented by Chesterfield Rotary president Barry Thompson.

Ashover Classic Car & Bike Show 2017

There was another good attendance for this year’s Ashover Classic Car & Bike Show held at Rectory Fields, Ashover, on Sunday 23 July 2017. Hundreds turned out for the show which is organised jointly by the Rotary Club’s of Chesterfield, Chesterfield Scarsdale, Clay Cross and Matlock.  The event raises thousands for local charities. 

Best car was a 1935 Derby Bentley Park Ward Drophead 3 1/2 litre owned by John Wilkes from Wingerworth.  Best bike was a 1937 1000cc Ariel Square Four owned by Peter Kirkman from Matlock.

Trophies were presented to the two winners by Clay Cross Rotary president Sally Jackson.  Rotary wishes to thank everyone who supported the event.

Ashover Classic Car & Bike Show – Sunday 23 July 2017

Local charities are once again set to benefit when hundreds of classic cars and bikes turn up at the picturesque Ashover Show Ground, near Chesterfield, for an all-day rally, which is expected to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.

Believed to be the East Midlands’ best Classic Car & Bike Show of the year, it runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Sunday 23 July 2017.  It will be attended by enthusiasts from all over the region and is expected to include classic cars, bikes and scooters from all eras.

Organised jointly for the seventh year running by the Rotary Clubs of Chesterfield, Chesterfield Scarsdale, Clay Cross and Matlock this annual charity event has now raised a total of over £70,000 for local charities.

There will be attractions for all the family, with a variety of refreshment stands and licensed bars. There is also musical entertainment and displays in the main event arena, kids rides, and a large side show with Autojumble and an Arts and Craft Fair.

This year, specialists from event partner H&H Classics, Europe’s largest specialist classic vehicle auction house will be in attendance at the show. The H&H team, in association with the UK’s specialist insurance and valuation expert for classic cars, Hagerty International, will be able to discuss just about everything to do with the cars from condition, history and a general idea of what it might be worth. If required they can also put owners in touch with Hagerty International for a formal valuation.

Rotary’s Record-Breaking Classic Car & Bike Show

The crowds flocked in to break all records for the sixth annual Ashover Classic Car & Bike Show which this year raised over £13,500 for the benefit of local charities.

Organised jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Chesterfield, Chesterfield Scarsdale, Clay Cross, and Matlock, the event held on Sunday 24 July 2016 provided a unique showcase for an amazing variety of over 700 classic cars and bikes brought by their proud owners from all over the region.

Best Car was adjudged to be a rare 1960 Bristol 406 with 2.2 straight six triple colex carbs owned by David Mann from Sheffield. Best Bike was adjudged to be an immaculate 1971 Honda K3 Series CL 350cc Street Scrambler owned by Bill Rimmer from North Wingfield.

Eric McCarrison, chairman of the organising committee, said “Over the last six years Rotary has raised getting on for £75,000 for local charities with this popular family event and we want to thank everyone for their continued support, and a big thanks go to all our sponsors, including main sponsor Autoworld.”

Local Rotary Clubs Awarded for Working Together

The organisers of the annual Ashover Classic Car & Bike Show have received a special award for working closely together in partnership that ensures the successful event raises thousands of pounds for needy local charities.

The Rotary Clubs of Chesterfield, Chesterfield Scarsdale, Clay Cross and Matlock have received recognition from Rotary District 1220 with the presentation of the ‘Peter Moralee Working Together Trophy’ which was made during a special function at Chesterfield Town Hall on Thursday 16 April 2015.

Over the last four years various local charities have benefited by over £40,000 from the event at the picturesque Ashover Rectory Fields Show Ground where hundreds of classic cars and bikes attend the all-day rally.

Clay Cross Rotarian recognised in New Year’s honours

Ray Foster of Clay Cross writes;

We wish to congratulate fellow rotarian Dr Cheryle Berry member of Clay Cross Rotary for 3 years, also our Senior Vice President, for the award of MBE in the New Years Honours List.

Cheryle’s award was for services to Education, Health and Charity in Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.
The investiture will be held at Buckingham Palace later in the year.

You can imagine both Cheryle and our pleasure as the news leaked out, we feel such pride and wish Cheryle all the best for the future, we are confident that this will not impede the work load and enthusiasm that we have all been caught up in.
