Storm Ciara versus Epworth Tea Party
What could possibly go wrong? The cakes were baked, the hall and the entertainment were booked, the invitations to our annual Senior Citizens tea party had gone out, we had left nothing to chance. But we couldn’t have predicted the extremes of the great British weather! Storm Ciara had caused a power cut which meant it was impossible to heat and light the hall, make tea or provide our entertainer (Marina Mae) with electricity for her amplifier.
Nevertheless our doughty members of the Rotary Club of Epworth and Isle of Axhome snatched triumph from the jaws of disaster by carrying out and impromptu ‘tea-run’!
Having made mountains of sandwiches, numerous cakes and a bucket of trifle we weren’t going to let the Senior Citizens go hungry. So the teas were plated and dispatched in short order. For only the second time in our history have we had to cancel the tea party, but the teas were duly delivered.
Many thanks to all the members for their efforts today and to friends of Rotary, Peter and Anne Broster, and Tim Mitchell.
